A study by Buolamwini and Gebru (2018) revealed significant biases in facial recognition systems, with higher error rates for women and people with darker skin tones. These biases can have real-world consequences, such as perpetuating discrimination or leading to unjust decisions in areas like law enforcement.

The integration of AI into society has significant implications. Ethical concerns arise in areas such as autonomous vehicles, healthcare, finance, and the criminal justice system. Virtue ethics emphasizes the development of virtuous character traits to guide ethical decision-making. Rights-based ethics, rooted in the work of philosophers like John Locke and Immanuel Kant, centers on the protection of individual rights and dignity. When considering AI, it is crucial to safeguard fundamental human rights, such as privacy, freedom of expression, and freedom from discrimination. Researchers and policymakers must work together to establish regulations and ethical frameworks that protect these rights in the development and deployment of AI technologies (Bostrom et al., 2019).
